Reform UK follow Labour's advice on tackling HMOs

Back in November 2024** I published an article on my blog about how Durham County Council could address residents’ concerns about HMOs in some of our communities. I suggested they should:

  •    Adopt restrictive planning policies that remove permitted development rights on lower occupancy HMOs and
  •    Invoke Article 4 Directions as a stand-alone policy in the forthcoming County Durham Plan review

Durham County Council’s cabinet met yesterday to come to a decision on how they can address concerns about the amount of HMO’s (Houses in Multiple Occupation) in some of our communities. The recommendation in their cabinet report suggests they should:

  •    Adopt restrictive planning policies that remove permitted development rights on lower occupancy HMOs and
  •    Invoke Article 4 Directions as a stand-alone policy in the forthcoming County Durham Plan review

They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery!
