I’ve been contacted this afternoon by a resident concerned about an open drain/manhole among the trees in the fields behind Ocean View and Attlee Avenue in Blackhall Rocks.
It is reported that sewage has been flowing out of the drain and into the field. It is also thought that children may have been playing in this area.
I’ve raised the resident’s concerns with the council and I’ve also alerted Northumbrian Water to the reports of overflowing sewage and the potential danger of falling into the open manhole.
Until these issues have been fully addressed by the authorities please take extra care when in this area, and please warn your children of the potential dangers and ask them to stay away from this location.

We attended yesterday, removed some debris and made safe the manhole before it was too dark to continue work. We’ll return again today to investigate further.
