Household Waste Recycling Centres: Winter opening hours

Household waste recycling centres across County Durham will switch to winter opening hours from Sunday 1 October 2017.

Recycling centres to change to winter opening hours

Household waste recycling centres in County Durham will switch to their winter opening times from next month.

From Sunday, 1 October until Saturday, 31 March, recycling centres owned by Durham County Council and managed by HW Martin will be open during the following hours:

Monday to Sunday – 9am to 3.30pm

  • Annfield Plain
  • Heighington Lane, Newton Aycliffe
  • Middleton-in-Teesdale
  • Potterhouse Lane, Pity Me
  • Romanway, Bishop Auckland
  • Seaham
  • Tudhoe

Monday to Thursday – 10am to 4pm (closed Fridays)
Saturday, Sunday and bank holidays – 9am to 3.30pm

  • Coxhoe
  • Horden
  • Thornley

Saturday, Sunday and bank holidays – 9am to 3.30pm

  • Hett Hills, Chester-le-Street
  • Stainton Grove, Barnard Castle

Recycling centres accept a range of household materials including soil and rubble, wood, plasterboard, scrap metal, car batteries, batteries, TVs and monitors, fridges (except Stainton Grove site), textiles, shoes, glass, cardboard, paper, plastics, cartons, cans, cooking oil and general waste that cannot be recycled.

Trade and commercial waste is not permitted.

Residents visiting with a van, pickup or minibus, or towing a trailer need a waste permit to enter the sites. Three permits can be requested at one time and can be applied for online at www.durham.gov.uk/householdpermit or by calling 03000 261 000 during office hours.

All centres are closed on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
