Footpath repairs confirmed for A1086 at Blackhall Rocks

Last week I published an article reporting on progress with footpath repair requests I’d submitted to the county council (please see post dated Tuesday 26 June 2020 for details).

The article referred to requests for repairs to two separate stretches along the A1086 Coast Road linking Blackhall Rocks and Crimdon following concerns expressed by residents that the pavement surfaces at this location were badly worn, unsightly and unsafe. I had also submitted a request for repairs to the footpath on Mickle Hill Road between Blackhall Rocks and High Hesleden.

I’m please to report that I received correspondence this morning from the highways section at county hall confirming that repair works to the most damaged stretch of pathway, from the top of Belmonte Avenue and past the houses opposite South Blackhall Farm (pictured above), have been included in the current capital works programme, with full structural repairs scheduled to be carried out this year.

In addition, t
he two separate requests for surface treatment to the rest of the pathway heading from Blackhall Rocks towards The Seagull, and the pathway along Mickle Hill Road linking Blackhall Rocks to High Hesleden, have been forwarded to the specialist surfacing team for consideration. I’ll update on these particular sections as soon as I have further information from the team. In the meantime I have an assurance that the surface of these pavements will be inspected and made safe.

The confirmation I received this morning is reproduced below in full:

Good morning Cllr,

I can confirm that the following footpath scheme has received approval and are in the DCC Capital Programme for the 20-21 financial year, with works to be completed before April 2021:

A1086 South Black Halls Farm

Due to the current Covid-19 regulations, all schemes are subject to the appropriate risk assessment and social distancing measures being possible on site.

The additional two schemes which we assessed, Mickle Hill Road and the continuation of the A1086 coast Road to Crimdon Dene Holiday park, have been passed to our specialist surfacing team for consideration for a footway surfacing treatment. In the meantime these areas will continue to be inspected and made safe in line with the highway inspection manual.
