LUNCHTIME FORECAST ISSUED TUESDAY 21ST MARCH 2017: This afternoon will have spells of sunshine together with a few well-scattered showers, these locally with hail and hill snow mixed-in. Turning cloudier from the south-west through this evening with outbreaks of rain, sleet and hill snow expected later in the night with a slight risk of snow temporarily to low levels too. Wednesday will be mostly wet and chilly with persistent rain but with further snow at times over hills. Staying cloudy and wet into Wednesday evening with further rain and hill snow. A chilly night - RSTs dipping to zero where snow falls. Confidence is low on the details of snow. Snow summary: Tuesday 1200 - 1800: Wintry showers could give slight accumulations on the highest roads for a short time but accumulations are not expected otherwise. Tuesday 1800 - Wednesday 0800: Risk of seeing local dusting up to 1cm below 100m, 1-2cm between 100m-300m, 2-5cm between 300m-500m and 5-10cm above 500m. Wednesday 0800 - 1800: Through the morning the snow level will rise but some wet snow still possible, mainly above 300-400metres at times, 3-8cm is possible in the highest areas but less than this will accumulate on the roads. Some flurries are possible for a time lower than this but these will not lead to any significant accumulations.
